What does a lab grown engagement ring under £2,500 get you?
Three carats in gold, or two carats with everything else upgraded around it.
This is the budget where the decision stops being about affordability and starts being about taste. You can take the largest certified stone the money reaches, or you can hold the size at two carats and spend the difference on platinum, on a higher colour and clarity grade, or on a setting with diamonds through the band.

There is one honest exception. If you want the ring to look wider than the centre stone alone would allow, a halo does that more cheaply than buying the carat weight outright, because small accent diamonds cost far less per point than one large one.
