How often should you get an engagement ring checked?

Once a year for normal daily wear, more often if the ring takes heavy use. The check looks for loose prongs, a wobbly centre stone, worn metal under the band where it gets thinnest, and any small chips or hairline cracks that can become serious if missed.

Prongs in particular wear down over time as they catch on clothes, gym equipment and door handles, and a worn prong can fail without warning. Most fine jewellers offer this service for free, including Luma.

Outside the annual check, see a jeweller straight away if the ring feels different on your finger, if you hear or feel the stone moving when you tap it, or if you have caught it on something hard. Regular checks cost nothing and prevent the worst kind of loss, which is a stone falling out of a setting you did not realise was failing.
