A bespoke engagement ring typically takes four to six weeks from first sketch to finished piece, and up to two months for more involved pieces, depending on the complexity of the design and the availability of the diamond. The process at Luma starts with a consultation to talk through what you want: stone, metal, style, budget. We then prepare a design sketch and a 3D render so you can see the ring before it is made. Once you sign off, we source the diamond, often within a week from our network, and our workshop begins production. Most rings are cast, set, polished and finished within two to four weeks after diamond sourcing. We allow a longer window for more intricate designs (pavé bands, custom halos, hand engraving) and for diamonds outside our usual stock range. If you have a fixed date, tell us at the consultation and we will plan the timeline backwards from it.

The process broken down
Week 1: consultation, brief, initial design sketch. Week 2: 3D render and review, sign off, and the diamond sourced from the network or a specific request. Weeks 3 to 5: casting, setting, polishing, hallmarking at the London Assay Office. Week 6: final QC, photography, dispatch. Simple solitaires complete closer to four weeks, intricate pavé or custom designs take the full window, and the most involved pieces can run to two months.
If the timeline is tight
Bespoke is not the only route to something that feels personal. Our engagement ring collection is customisable on shape, carat weight, metal and setting, which covers most of what clients come to bespoke for and skips the design stage entirely. The ring settings range is the place to start if you already have a stone in mind.
How to plan for a specific date
If you have a proposal or anniversary date, start the bespoke process at least eight weeks ahead to give buffer for diamond sourcing delays and design revisions. Six weeks is doable if everything runs smoothly. Less than four weeks is rushed, and without our Priority upgrade we may not be able to commit.
Related questions
Can a bespoke ring be made faster?
Yes, with our Priority upgrade. For £499 we move your commission to the front of the bench and finish it in two weeks, provided the diamond is already in stock and the design is straightforward. Worth asking at the consultation if you have a hard deadline.
How does bespoke pricing compare to a stock setting?
Bespoke typically costs 10 to 25 percent more than an equivalent stock setting because of the design time and one off production. The cost is for the design work and the unique piece, not just the materials.
Can I see the ring before it is finished?
Yes. We share the 3D render at the design stage and photographs of the piece at key stages (after casting, after setting). You sign off the final design before we cast.
