Gold and Lab Grown Diamond Hoop Earrings
A hoop is the earring most people reach for without thinking, which is exactly why it is worth buying in solid gold rather than plating. Every Luma hoop is solid 9k or 14k gold, hallmarked in the UK and made in our Hatton Garden workshop. Plain gold hoops start at £107 and lab grown diamond hoops start at £775.

How much do gold hoop earrings cost?
Plain solid gold hoops at Luma start at £107 for the Maia in 18mm 9k gold, with most everyday sizes between £125 and £255. Larger statement hoops run to £645 for the Orla at 55mm and 65mm. Price is driven mostly by diameter and the weight of gold in the hoop, so a 30mm hoop costs more than a 20mm one in the same metal for the simple reason that there is more gold in it.
| Style | From |
|---|---|
| Small hoops and huggies, 16mm to 22mm | £107 |
| Everyday hoops and creoles, 20mm to 30mm | £125 |
| Larger hoops, 45mm to 65mm | £645 |
| Lab grown diamond hoops | £775 |
Buying hoops in London
We make every pair to order at our bench in Hatton Garden, so an empty stock figure on a product page means the piece is waiting to be made rather than sold out. If you would rather see diameters against your own ear before choosing, book a consultation at our Hatton Garden studio. Hoop size is one of the few things that genuinely does not translate from a photograph.
Questions
How much are lab grown diamond hoop earrings?
Lab grown diamond hoops start at £775 at Luma, which buys the Aude or the Daphne in 14k gold set with round brilliant lab grown diamonds. The Maelle and the Cassia are £905, and the Cielle and Cielle II are £1,035 for a double row of stones.
A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically the same material as a mined one and is graded by the same laboratories against the same standards. It costs less because it skips extraction and a long supply chain, which is why a diamond hoop sits under £1,000 here rather than several times that.
What is the difference between a hoop, a creole and a huggie?
A hoop is a full circle that passes through the ear and closes behind it. A creole is a hoop that tapers, usually thicker at the bottom than the top, which makes it read heavier on the ear without weighing more. A huggie is a small hoop, roughly 10mm to 18mm, that sits close against the lobe and tends to stay in all the time.
All three are in this collection. If you want one pair you never take out, start with a huggie or a small hoop in 9k gold.
Will solid gold hoops turn your ears green?
Solid gold very rarely marks skin. The green comes from copper in the alloy reacting with moisture, so 14k reacts less than 9k and plated hoops mark far more often once the plating wears through. Everything in this collection is solid gold rather than plated or vermeil, so there is no plating to wear off. Read more on whether gold jewellery turns skin green.
Can you sleep and shower in gold hoops?
You can sleep in small hoops and huggies, and many people do. Showering is a different question: soap film dulls the finish and chlorine attacks the alloy over time, so take them out for swimming. Our guide on wearing fine jewellery in the shower covers the detail.
